Would you eat 16 packs of sugar?

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene have done it again...

Remember the Drinking Yourself Fat campaign that told us that "drinking 1 can of soda a day can make you 10 pounds fatter"?

Their new ad asks:

Would you eat 16 packs of sugar?

Thomas Farley, New York City Health Commissioner, hopes “that this campaign will encourage people to consider healthier alternatives to sugary drinks... Even small changes can have real health benefits.”

I wonder how lousy that actor felt after a few takes making that ad! I'm sharing this. Thanks.

Melissa- I thought the same thing... hopefully he was at least allowed to brush his teeth between takes!

Many thoughts when watching this. At first I was all for the Blumberg initiative but now I see some problems. First, that people who are on Food Stamps can't buy soda. Second, how fat is being racialized is also problematic.

I'm not saying the initiative and end goal is bad, it's just the whole rhetoric of who buys soda and the racialization of who is fat that I think is problematic.
