Controversial... According to this obesity economist (since when is this a profession?!), Americans' expanding waistlines are helping boost the economy- in the short-term anyway.
of course! our economy is based on ever increasing consumption of everything. health care as an industry is considered successful if it treats more people, meaning unhealthy people are good for the economy.
I can definitely believe this because people spend so much money on an excess of food they don't even eat. However, junk food is subsidized by the gov. so it's still cheaper than most healthy, quality foods.
